Brent Ameneyro – DH E-lit Programs Assistant
It’s no easy task disrupting the rhythm that gets established in an art community much less an institution. Many groups within the modernist movement wrote manifestos as a way of establishing agency, of declaring their presence. Although this humble blog is far from a manifesto, may this space be known as an ongoing declaration: Electronic Literature is alive and well at SDSU.
As the new DH E-Lit Programs Assistant, I want writers interested in experimentation, hybridity, and innovation to know they are supported here. With the help of my mentor Dr. Jessica Pressman, I will work hard to connect interested students and faculty at SDSU and within the surrounding community. I hope this position will help current and future students see that their dreams—no matter how ambitious or off-grid—are valid and deserve support and celebration.
I am looking forward to working with Harmit Chima on the DH Showcase. I would like to take this opportunity to encourage all interested students to start thinking about creating E-Lit for this event. There are many tutorials available (https://library.sdsu.edu/digital-humanities-center) and I will be hosting workshops throughout the semester. If you can navigate a website, you can create E-Lit! All you need is the will to venture off into what I can assure is exciting territory.
I will be posting here with updates on my experience in this position. My next post will start chronicling my journey toward creating an E-Lit special issue for a literary journal.
